Dei Magna Est

"If you are talking to God, you are praying; If God talks to you, you have schizophrenia."
-Thomas Szaz-

Dei Magna Est (Latin for God is great/God is Large) pays homage to a deity or multiple deities. A series of digital manipulation of photographs of organic matter. Created at a size that is meant to dwarf its viewers.  It is a guess at attempting to represent the idea of a God or higher being through visual language. Mans' relationship with a higher being has been an ongoing existential issue for quite some time. We (westernized culture) are in the process of removing any dependence or need of any form of a God or Mystic entity.
Or have we?
Perhaps we are in need of the concept; perhaps it did more good than bad. This project does not imply a blind following towards a God, but rather a recollection of spirituality as an extension of being human. A renaissance of the spiritual and sacred.
There are various definitions of what constitutes God. Over time several religions have morphed the image of God as they saw necessary. This project aims to create visuals that portrays one of many possible essences of what God could be. There is no iconography, no personification and no claim that this is objectively what God looks like. Rather an introspective and personalized translation of what God/s could be.
